It all started in March of 2012 when the majority of my male friends decided it would be a grand idea to start wearing bow ties with their suits instead of just the regular tie. They would sip on scotch and smoke cigars too(apparently I had a pretty classy group of friends) The majority of the time they would sit around talking about which scotch to drink next and what was a good cigar to smoke. I tell yah, it was pretty hilarious hearing them talk about this. I enjoyed it very much.

I had this crazy idea, because they were all wearing these bow ties and bow ties in general were starting to make a come back, that I would start creating them. Having some sewing experience it in high school and later in college when I thought I wanted to go to school for fashion design(so glad I opted out of that)I knew that I could pick it right back up, just like riding a bike. I bought some fabric, a little sewing machine, and got straight to work on creating the bow ties.

I started out with the basics...seersucker, gingham, plaid & I even got lucky and found some crab material.

Since 2012, I have created hundreds of different ties for numerous of different occasions. In 2013 alone I was so so lucky to receive and complete 10 wedding orders, one of them being a friend that I met my freshman year of college. Also in 2013, Chesapeake Tides got in it's first store in Ocean City Maryland. How amazing is that?! I hope 2014 brings me as much luck if not more to Chesapeake Tides and in years to come!
